If you wish to forward a domain name that you have to a different domain address or subdomain, one of the ways to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain being redirected loses all its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it is redirected to. In this way, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be directed to the website that you've set up, but it will also appear in the web browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to redirect all the traffic from different subdomains to their main Internet domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain simply because such a record created for the main domain address makes it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Web Hosting

You can easily create CNAME records provided you have a Linux shared web hosting from our company. We'll provide you with an easy-to-use CP where you can see all DNS records for the domain addresses and subdomains which are hosted within the account. Creating a CNAME record involves a few basic steps - pick the domain/subdomain, pick CNAME as the type, type in the hostname you are pointing to, then just click the Save button. The procedure is as simple as that and the new record is going to be active almost right away. That way, you will have more control over your domain names and subdomains and over the content they open, you could create a private URL for company e-mails, and a lot more. If you feel unsure about how to create a new record or you have never done such a task, you will find a short video tutorial where you could see the whole process first-hand. If you want to edit or delete an existing CNAME record created for a domain/subdomain hosted on our end, it'll take you literally simply a mouse click to do it.
