Dot NAME Domain Names

Introduced in 2001, the .NAME universal extension is the sole TLD meant for personal websites only. These domains can consist of personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other titles people are famous by. At first, just third-level registrations were allowed, so if you desired to reserve john.doe.name, you were supposed to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was liberalized and 2nd-level registrations were also permitted. Already taken 3rd-level names remained working.
